12th International Ceramics Competition

I am so excited to be selected as a finalist for the 12th International Ceramics Competition in Mino, Japan, a triennial exhibition. The was originally scheduled to occur in 2020, but has been postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Final judging will take place next summer ... a very long time to keep my fingers crossed!

This is the second time my work has been selected for this prestigious competition. I was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 11th International Competition, in 2017 (see below).

"Mark and Liza are internationally recognized as pioneers in the utilization of metallic soluble salts, a technique relatively unexplored until now.  Their creations are clad in exquisite surfaces of delicate and rare shades of color.

Liza, inspired by the parched earth of California, erects totemic sculptures exploring the unexpected poetry of the arid ground, while Mark presents a whole gallery of highly tactile forms, sometimes closed, sometimes open, but always with intriguing and seductive surfaces."
