The 11th International Ceramics Competition, Mino, Japan

I am so honored that my work, Elemental Palette #425, was awarded an Honorable Mention at the 11th International Ceramics Competition. This is a triennial exhibition held in Mino, Japan to provide "a glimpse into a future blessed with creativity, backed by the ultimate in technical sophistication, and with the unlimited potential of humanity."

The competition received 2,466 works from 1,337 entrants representing 60 countries -- my work is one of only four accepted from the United States. A stunning exhibition catalog has been published, and is available from the International Festival.

"Mark and Liza are internationally recognized as pioneers in the utilization of metallic soluble salts, a technique relatively unexplored until now.  Their creations are clad in exquisite surfaces of delicate and rare shades of color.

Liza, inspired by the parched earth of California, erects totemic sculptures exploring the unexpected poetry of the arid ground, while Mark presents a whole gallery of highly tactile forms, sometimes closed, sometimes open, but always with intriguing and seductive surfaces."
